PROJECT IN BRIEF
When He Came Home
It's a common refrain in this small town: Chad Olson came home different. He left Republic, Wash., for Iraq as the smiling kid with dozens of friends. He returned but was never truly the same. One night last August, the 21-year-old Iraq-war veteran murdered his wife before committing suicide. Almost a year later, this small community with a population under 1,000 still struggles to understand what happened to one of its own.
